Over the festive season the Kruger National Park welcomes more visitors than usual from all over South Africa and the world. All who which arrive with the hopes of seeing leopard, giraffe, elephant, cheetah and many more. Generally, the lion is on top of visitors list on animals to see in Kruger.

Lions are usually active early in the morning and at sunset when the temperature is cool. Around this time is when lions will hunt and travel. Because of this, a common lion sighting will involve a small pride lounging under the shade of a tree. If you are lucky enough, you may see a lion hunt or even kill. One of Shikwari Safaris was lucky enough to see the latter.

On New Year’s Day a Shikwari safari had the luck of seeing a beautiful Male Lion take down its kill, a young buffalo, just meters from the vehicle. The lion dragged its prey over the road where all the spectators watched in amazement and anticipation.

The male settled under the shade of the tree to enjoy his meal in a bit more privacy.
